Recap of an Inspiring Day at the Adelaide Disability Expo

Last Friday, our team had the privilege of attending the Aged and Disability Expo at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with the community, learn more about the needs of those living with disabilities, and connect with individuals, families, and caregivers.

The expo was filled with energy and excitement, and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to explore the resources and services available here in Adelaide. As an NDIS-registered provider, we were delighted to meet so many of you, hear your stories, and discuss how we can best support your unique needs.

Our Event Activations

30-Second Sit to Stand (30 CST)

We invited attendees to try the 30-Second Sit to Stand test, starting from a seated position on a chair. The challenge was to stand up and sit down as many times as possible in 30 seconds. This activity highlighted the importance of lower body strength and endurance. Participants were welcome to use their arms to assist by pushing against their legs or the chair, making it accessible for everyone.

Grip Strength Test

Our team offered a Grip Strength Test, where attendees used a dynamometer to measure their hand and forearm strength. With a firm grip, relaxed shoulders, and elbows tucked in, participants squeezed the dynamometer for 3-5 seconds after a simple countdown, completing three attempts. This activity was a great way to bring awareness to muscle health and strength.

Timed Up and Go (TUG)

The Timed Up and Go test was another popular activity at our booth. We set up a chair and a cone 3 metres apart and participants began seated in the chair. After a quick countdown, they stood up, walked to the cone, circled it, and returned to sit back down. This test was a practical and engaging way to assess mobility, balance and the risk of falls.

One-Leg Balance Test

We also ran a One-Leg Balance Test, where attendees were encouraged to balance on one leg for as long as possible. Starting with their arms by their sides, participants lifted one foot behind them and balanced on the standing leg. This simple yet effective test demonstrates the importance of balance in daily life and fall prevention.

Safety Precautions

Throughout all the activities, our physiotherapists Aakriti and Prateek were nearby to provide support and ensure everyone’s safety, especially for tests involving balance.

Thank you to everyone who visited the My Physio My Health booth and shared your stories with us. Your engagement made the event truly special. We look forward to seeing you at future events and continuing to support our community in every way we can.
